This is a very nice english rifle man's volunteer regiment cartirdge box with strap which dates from the mid to late 19th century. The body is constructed of black leather which although the finish is crackling, it has survived in healthy and very nice original condition.
Mounted upon the front face is a beautiful brass insignia of the stringed bugle accentuated with thistles. The strap also wears an equally lovely insignia marked cheshunt rifel volunteers. Both insignias remain in uncleaned, untouched condition adn have developed rich aged patinas. Overall the cartridge box body measures 7 5/8 inches across by 4 1/2 inches tall.
