Interesting European Court Sword
This interesting european court or dress sword dates to the mid-19th century. There are no identifying marks that i can see. The most distinguishing feature of the sword is the wonderful scabbard finial decorated with the cherubs and a classical greek female figure. The blade is about 50 cm. Long and shows the signs fo prior cleanings.
The hilt is in good shape, with the ivory grip being free of sracks or losses. oBth quillons are terminated in cherub finials. Grip is a bit loose and fragile in appearance. The scabbard body si made of what appears to be tinned metal that at one time was probably plated.
I don't hvae much else to say about this piece. I'm sure there's someone out there who knows the origins and intentions of this sword. Offeerd as is, without the reserve. No returns on this piece! ================================================================.
