This outstanding french officer light cavalry saber is one of many variations in service during the napoleonic consulat / first empire and has survived in wonderful condition. It is mounted with a very nice curved, blade that measures 34 3/4 inches in length. The blade shows to have received cleanings throughout the years, nevertheless does remain in very good condition with all of the original engraving still present as well as traces of the original gold. The lovely brass stirrup guard has also survived in wonderful condition and frames a copper wire wrapped hilt which also remains very nice with only minor wear.
The beatuiful brass scabbard is simple but elegant in its floral motif design on the front face and although has a couple of small dings and one small hairline crack near the drag, does remains straight and fits snuggly to the blade. Overall measuring 41 inches in length. (please note other tiems shown as props are not included in this auction).
