Beautiful English Made Mameluk Style Officer Sword 19Th
This is a wonderful english made officer's sword mameluk type saber which dates from the mid 19th century. It is mounted with a beautifully etched curved blade that measures 29 inches in length which although shows to have been worked no at the bottom portion of the blade, does remain in good condition with most of the lovely etching still present. The etching on the blade includes the maker's name tho gill no. 88 st. James street london warranted on one side and a very nice, large cyhper that i am not familiar with on the other side.
Teh wonderful bone pistol grips remains in perfectly healthy condition, have deeply mellowed and wear lovely starburst designed rivets. The steel crossguard measures 5 1/4 inches across, remains in good sturdy condition adn wears pretty etching that coordinates to the etched design on the pommel. The metal scabbard has an old coat of varnish with a few small dings, nevertheless, remains in good serviceable condition. Overall emasuring 37 1/2 inches in length.
